What to bring?

Always wear covered shoes and bring water, hat, sunscreen and insect repellent. Except for presentation days always bring something to eat for morning or afternoon tea and lunch if it’s over the lunch period.

April – Saturday 8th, – Byron Wetlands 02.30pm – 06.00pm – New comers welcome

Reason – Monitoring – bird populations and species diversity

How to Get There – Take the exit off Ewingsdale Rd at the BP station into Bayshore Drive, follow the road past IGA and then just after IGA turn left into Wallum Place – drive to the end.

For people with keys Saturday is an access day otherwise the gates will be closed – so please let me know if you intend to turn up please email byronbirdbuddy@gmail.com or contact 0428864378 on arrival.

April – Wednesday 12th – 08.00am – 01.00pm – Seapeace – Ewingsdale

Reason- Monitoring – bird populations and species diversity: Seapeace is a private property consisting of remnant areas of wet and dry subtropical rainforest, hoop pine forest and planted native gardens. This will be a summer/autumn survey for the property owner.

How to Get There – Turn into McGeddins Lane, Ewingsdale off Ewingsdale Road, this runs into Balraith Lane – travel to end, past the Steiner School – about 100m past the school is a gate – which may either be open or closed – wait here – if open travel in and wait on right-hand side of road for Wren McLean who will manage the survey. We drive another 200m and leave the cars at the bottom of the road to the house.

April – Sunday 23rd – 02.30pm – 06.00pm – Vallances Road – Mullumbimby. (Note changed date from previous schedule)

Reason – Monitoring – bird populations and species diversity. The land at Vallances Road is part of the Byron Shire Councils Mullumbimby Sewage Treatment Plant. The site consists of variety of mainly riparian vegetation along the banks of the Brunswick River with some open paddocks and a billabong.

How to Get There –Vallances Road is off Coolamon Scenic Drive, between Mullumbimby and Ocean Shores –approx 6-7kms north from Mullumbimby or 10kms west of Ocean Shores from the Tweed Valley Way Orana Road roundabout. Drive to the end of the sealed road and meet at the gate where the buildings are.
