Community Education

Members provide a range of education activities within the Byron Shire area as well as surrounding Shire Areas. Activities include:

  • Conducting guided Bird Walks and Public Talks
  • Assisting the National Parks and Wildlife Service with their Discovery Program
  • Provide information to members and the public through the production of brochures, bookmarks, posters, fact sheets and signage particularly about local shorebirds and habitats.
  • Production of a number of bird PowerPoint presentations to be used following guided walks at the Byron Wetlands or on request at other venues such as schools, local clubs, aged homes, council seminars, environment days and private homes. Title of presentations available include Shorebirds of the Northern Rivers, Birds of the Byron Wetlands, Birds and Backyards, Bushbirds that Migrate to the Northern Rivers and Birds of the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia.
  • Host a stall at local events and festivals.
  • Maintain a website that provides information on local birds and BBB activities and observations.
  • Maintain regular update on social media, Twitter and Facebook, on a range of interesting bird research, articles and information from a loca,l national and international perspective.
  • Take overseas and other visitors on monitoring outings.
  • Maintain a birds species list for areas in the Byron Shire.
  • Developed a program package Wild About Birds or delivery to schools in the Northern Rivers.
