NOTE: sudden changes may occur to our program, so it’s best to email. For surveys, experience is not necessary. Beginners are welcomed at all outings which will provide an opportunity to learn about our birds and their habitat.

What To Bring: Always wear covered shoes and bring water, hat, sunscreen and insect repellent. Except for presentation days, always bring something to eat for morning or afternoon tea and lunch if it’s over the lunch period. For presentation days bring a plate to share for morning or afternoon tea

 

During August and September – Continue monitor shorebird nesting activity and migrating shorebirds record observations on an Excel spreadsheets. Please, contact Jan at byronbirdbuddy@gmail.com if you wish to participate in a nesting bird-watch.

Thursday 20th – Ballina U3A at the Byron Wetlands – BBB presentation and assist with bird identification for participants

Long week-end starting Sept 29th to Tuesday October 2nd – -Brunswick Nature Sculpture Walk – from 10am to 2pm

Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th – BBB will be conducting clay bird-sculpturing workshop starting 10am . – Both children and adults really enjoyed it in 20015, so come and join us and createyour own bird.Monday October 1st – BBB will lead a bird walk starting at 8am from the Sound Stage (on the right before you go over the bridge) in Brunswick Heads. We will look and learn about the birds in and around the Brunswick River, Simpsons Creek, and TorakinaPark. OCTOBER

Saturday 6th October – Bangalow Land and River Care – 20th Anniversary Celebrations Time: 8am – 12md
Where: the grounds of Bangalow Heritage House
Reason: BBB – stall with bird information and discussion.

Daylight Saving Time begins at 2am on Sunday 7th – clocks are put forward one hour.

Sunday 7th October – Survey Vallances Road –
Time – 7.30am
Meet – at the ponds at base of hill on Vallances Road
Reason – General survey of site for all birds

Sunday 14th October – Stories in the Club –Six speakers including Jan Olley. Her story tells of her own discoveries in nature but of the astounding story of the incredible journey of thousands of migrating shorebirds that visit our coasts and wetlands each year.
Where – Mullumbimby Ex-Servicemen’s Club
Time – 4.00pm – 5.30pm
Cost – $10.00

Sunday 14th October – Glossy Black Cockatoo Birding Day. You can become involved by monitoring these birds on your own property or in a grid in anywhere in the Northern Rivers. Find details on the website www.glossyblack.org.au.

Sunday 21st October – Big Scrub Rainforest Day. BBB and Birdlife Northern Rivers will have a combined stall – so come and visit us.
Where – Rocky Creek Dam
Time – 7am to 3pm

Monday 22nd October – Start of Bird week – If you wish to do your own thing, become a citizen scientist and join thousand of people during National Bird Week 2018 by surveying your own backyard, local park or favorite open space as BirdLife Australia are again running the project “Aussie Backyard Bird Count”. You can register for the project by downloading the AP from http://aussiebirdcount.org.au

During the Byron Bird Buddies will be exploring some of the locations highlighted in our brochure “Birds of Byron Shire” which was launched last year -walks will be limited to 15 people so please register by contacting byronbirdbuddy@gmail.com or phoning 0428864378.

Monday – 22nd – 8am-12md – Cumbebin Wetlands NR –boardwalk and bike track (Brochure Walk No.7) – Meet at the corner of Somerset and Wordsworth Street, Byron Baybehind the Butler St Market site.

Wednesday – 24th – 10am-11am – Byron BayLibrary – Presentation “Birds of Byron Shire” and Art Display. Meet at the library.

Friday – 26th – 8am – 12md – MarshallsCreek NR – meet at the corner of Kolora Wayand Old New Road ( Site No.17 on brochure)

Sunday – 28th 8am – 3pm – Byron Wetlands – Morning walk & Afternoon Presentation. (Brochure Walk No 9) Walk starts 8am – 12md & Presentation starts at 2pm. Meet at the gate for the 8am walk -people can gain entry with their keys; for people without keys the gate will be opened at 7.45 and closed at 08.00 am. For the presentation the gate will be opened between 1.45pm & 2pm – if you are late please phone 0428864378. Cost – a plate of nibbles to share but bring your own lunch if staying all day. BBB will provide tea & coffee. The PowerPoint presentation will be of the Migrating Bushbirds of the Northern Riversand limited to 30 people so please register.
