BBB – commence monitoring of Pied Oystercatcher & Beach Stone-curlew breeding sites and record site visit on BBB online Excel spreadsheet. Please, contact Jan at byronbirdbuddy@gmail.com if you wish to participate in a nesting bird-watch during the beach-nesting bird season – August to Dec.
Saturday 12th – Billinudgel NR – Optus Track 08.00 – ending time variable
Reason: An introduction to bush birds for artists – inspiration to create work for Bird Week in October
How to Get There: Just past Billinudgel, enter Shara Boulevard off Tweed Valley Way, turn first left into Banool Circuit then left again at the top of the hill, entrance to the park fire-trail is the small track on the left at the base of the small hill before turning the corner. Park on the street where it is safe.
Sunday 13th – Mt Jerusalem – Middle Ridge Trail. 07. 30 – Ending time will be variable.
Reason: Survey is in association with BirdLife Northern Rivers monthly outing. Mt Jerusalem National Park lies within the Nightcap Range KBA (Key Biodiversity Area). Survey for all bird species & in particular the six trigger species, Albert’s Lyrebird, Green Catbird, Regent Bowerbird, Logrunner, Paradise Riflebird and Pale-yellow Robin.
How to Get There: The group will meet outside the General Store at Main Arm (there is a toilet there) just near the junction of Main Arm Road and The Pocket Road. Car-pool if necessary and travel along Main Arm Road to Middle Ridge Road, then 1.2kms to the Middle Ridge Trail. The walk will be a 5.5 km (return) walk to Rowlands Creek, and there are some steep areas. There are no facilities in the Park. Wednesday 23rd Vallances Road – Mullumbimby – 2pm – 7.30pm
Reason: Evening survey, 4-6h for BSC project – focus on owls on dusk
How to Get There: Vallances Road off Coolamon Scenic Drive – 10kms from Ocean Shores or 5km from Mullumbimby meet at the small pond at bottom of hill along Vallances Rd and then proceed to the STP gate at end of the road. byronbirdbuddy@gmail.com

Reason: Walk and Presentation
Walk – starts 9am – Presentation – Birds of the Wetlands Part 2 starts 13.00
How to Get There: Byron Wetlands – Wallum Place – Turn into Bayshore Drive off Ewingsdale Road, go past the IGA shopping Centre then turn left into Wallum Place – meet at the gate.
Bring – as above and whatever you need to eat and drink for morning tea and lunch.
